The fork on my train has a wider part on the left for cutting into cake

As has been said elsewhere, in some areas of the world (Germany for example) it was uncommon for a set of cutlerly not to contain a pastry fork. Every cake I have eaten during all my child hood has been with one fork such as this, everywhere I was: my own home, the home of friends, cafés, everywhere. They have become less of a standard today, but to me it is simply incomprehensible that someone might never have seen one even once. It's like you told me you had never seen a mobile phone – I know there are places in the world where people don't have one, but I didn't know those people had internet access.
