Former Associate Spreading Personal Rumors to Clients

Just to clarify I mean, what constitutes legal damage? I can't do my job, clients won't work with me, my employer knows this guy is crazy but also I'm not very useful if I can't do what he hired me for because of what this old associate is doing so while he has been understanding (he has been there more than once to catch this dude lying), I feel like he's losing patience with the whole thing. I haven't done anything even remotely close in communicating with clients, I haven't retaliated in any way, the only thing I have done is apologize for the confusion and my boss monitors all emails so obviously he knows the situation. I'm not sure why he hasn't done anything legally against this guy or if he is then I'm not aware of it, but at this point it's definitely affected my relationship with clients and I think has put my boss in an awkward position as well especially when it came to the rumor that we are romantically involved (something my current ACTUAL boyfriend has been thankfully pretty cool about lol)
