Former fat people of reddit, what's an actual trick that helped you lose weight?

Was always chubby as a kid, started lifting and eating healthily when I was 18, lost 35 lbs in 6 months. Here I am almost 10 years later, never stopped lifting. Gained more than 35 lbs back, but in muscle. Its become such an integral part of my life that I can't imagine living any other way now. My "trick" but of course YMMV, start hanging out and exercising with someone who's already living the lifestyle, learn from them, let them motivate you and hold you accountable until you don't need the motivation anymore. The gym community is on average, extremely accepting and supportive. The biggest, meanest looking, tattoo-covered bodybuilders and powerlifters are often some of the kindest people you'll ever meet. Find your community, find your groove!
