A former Filipino militiaman testified before the country's Senate on Thursday that President Rodrigo Duterte, when he was still a city mayor, ordered him and other members of a liquidation squad to kill criminals and opponents in gangland-style assaults that left about 1,000 dead

My mom is a big Duterte supporter so I asked her on why she supports him.

The president before Duterte was Aquino who's government is believed by many to be extremely corrupt. Many Filipinos blame him for the ruin of the Philippines.

Duterte is from Davao which has the highest murder and rape crime rate in the country. A lot of Filipinos believe that he was right for the extra judicial killings, because its a third-world country of corrupt politicians where nothing gets done.

According to my mom, Duterte's platform mainly revolved around ending corruption. When you're a kid begging on the side of a street for rice and you see politicians wearing expensive jewelry, driving luxurious cars and living in beautiful mansions when you literally live in a shanty that with 6 of your brothers and sisters, I suppose it really strikes a nerve.

My mom really agrees with the killings of drug dealers and drug lords because she thinks it will put an end to the corruption.

I should also mention she's a supporter of Marcos who was pretty authoritarian and declared martial law to extend term. She supports martial law because she thinks that's how you get things done.

So yeah, I'm not going to call my mom an idiot but I'll just say her faith is very very poorly misplaced.

That all being said my mom absolutely hates the Philippines and says she will never move back ever.
