Former Louisiana private investigator sentenced to 18 months in Trump tax return hacking attempt

Im a friend of Jordan's and have been reading him some comments to try and keep his spirits up, and he wanted me to share some stuff with you guys to clear up some of your questions. For starters, this case was never about what they've made it seem. It was never about Donald Trump's taxes per se. His involvement was incidental to the real goal. That goal being precisely how he was caught - informing the IRS of a security vulnerability in their FAFSA Data Retrieval Tool. Jordan was never "caught" doing anything. He used his own phone, his own internet, his own IP address, put his own phone number on the form, called the IRS to notify them and told federal agents exactly what he was doing and why. And the reason why was that he noticed how dangerous it was for the DRT to seemingly make unsecured calls to the IRS database and realized anyone could use someone's social and get their tax info through this tool. So in order to show them proof of this and get them to actually take it seriously, he used Trump's social which was publicly available. When he spoke with Federal Agents, he told them his concerns, that the DRT should be taken down until they could figure out how to encrypt or secure the data, and provided mountains of evidence detailing numerous times as part of his job that he's helped government agencies and law enforcement with similar cyber-security issues. Thats it. Thats the entirety of what he did. But this is where it gets interesting. Instead of taking the DRT down or heading his warnings, they proceeded to indict him and go after him for it, because of the fact that just a few months later there was a massive data breach of the DRT. Over a hundred thousand people's information was compromised and over 30 million in fraudulent tax returns paid out. This is what he was trying to prevent. And had they listened to him, it would have. There was a subsequent congressional hearing on the matter where the IRS and department of education were grilled about why they didn't take it down when he made them aware of it, and what steps they did take to secure it and they made it blatantly obvious that arresting him was pretty much the only steps they took and tried to use his arrest as an excuse to cover their own asses because once again they failed to protect taxpayer info and didn't notify congress or anyone else of it. But again, because they at least started monitoring it after he warned them, they were able to shut the tool down and stop the massive breach of tax info from being even worse. And they could've prevented it entirely had they listened to him from the beginning. He made them look like fools and they set out to crucify him for it and distract from how badly they dropped the ball and screwed up again in protecting taxpayer info. Thats what this whole case was about and why they have screwed him so badly from the beginning and tried to make him look like some rogue hacker out to get trump's tax info when that was never the case and there was never any evidence behind that. Was he curious what Trump's taxes were? Of course. Did he want to see it for his own personal reasons? Of course. It would be a lie for anyone to say otherwise. But that was never his primary goal and all of the evidence clearly showed that. But its evidence they wouldn't allow and its also why they prevented him from being able to argue any of this at trial. Its a story they don't want out there, and they don't want to admit that he is a fucking hero for what he did and his actions saved millions of americans from having their tax information stolen and costing hundreds of millions in damages. I stand by him for what he did and am proud of him for it. They wanted to make an example out of him, and the only message they truly sent was that Child pornography is okay, but if you peek behind the curtains of any government agency, even with good intentions, they will nail you to the wall. They sent that message the second that someone convicted of 34 instances of child pornography sentenced right before him was given 2 years probation and Jordan was then given 18 months in Federal Prison. So spread those facts far and wide, because people need to know the truth about what he really did for the American People and what his government did to him in return. And in those regards, he says he didn't fail. He set out to get their attention, make them aware of the flaw and prevent a massive hack of user data from their insecure system. And that's exactly what happened. And instead of praise he got a felony conviction. Welcome to America.
