Former Obama Defense Intel Chief Says Hillary Should ‘Step Down’

I agree that it's concerning how much a lot of people here seem to be ready to jump down her throat and jump to conclusions. However, we do know a couple things, including that some of the data recovered from her email server is at least now classified as Secret. They are investigating for impropriety, but I will say that (being a former USAF Base Records Manager) what she did is illegal and would get anyone else fired. She used bad judgement, but she isn't the only one. Unless there are some ridiculously special safeguards that haven't been hinted at yet, she and whoever set that system up at her house should go to jail.

Part of the definitions and distinctions when classifying data come from how much it could potentially damage national security interests if disclosed.

  • Top Secret: Exceptionally grave damage

  • Secret: Serious damage

  • Confidential: Damage

Now you can totally say that, "The State Department was the classification authority and they didn't classify them at the time." But then the question has to be asked, "why was any of it on SIPRnet at all?". It didn't get there magically, and you can't accidentally do something like that. Something's fucky.

I don't believe Hillary is the only or first person to do this, but unfortunately she's the first to come under public scrutiny (at her level) for it. That doesn't mean I believe this is a pervasive problem and she's just the poster child for it. She broke the law, so she and whoever authorized/built/maintained that system in her home should face punishment. This isn't demonizing her, she broke the law and then decided to run for president.
