Former Okie thinking about moving from Austin to Tulsa.

I'm not going to lie- there are a lot more things to do in Austin, Dallas, Boston, Chicago, Denver, NYC, Los Angeles, etc... than in Tulsa. If I could wave a magic wand and live in one of those cities and be financially comfortable I would. We just can't compete with the nightlife of cities with several million people.

However, Tulsa isn't as bad as you would expect (that should be our city motto). The downtown and midtown areas are pretty developed, liberal and artsy, with multiple events going on every week. If you're in town for a day I'd recommend checking to see if there are any outdoor events/concerts at the [Guthrie Green](https://www.guthriegreen.com/event-calendar)- especially their Sunday Concert- or the [Woody Guthrie Center](http://woodyguthriecenter.org/).

We're politically conservative overall, but there are lots of liberal/leftish people in their 20s and 30s, and our current mayor is a socially moderate, pro-business Republican who is not at all scary as far as Republicans go. I also think that the city will start to drift closer to the center as the Downtown area develops and more young, techie-types move here.

I generally think of Tulsa as being like a scaled-down, toned-down, Oklahoma version of Austin, but more affordable.
