Is Forza 7 really as bad as people are putting on?

Both have their ups and downs mostly because Microsoft and the developers have business reasons to do exactly that. IRL I'm thoroughly a car guy, I wrench on my own and I have one I love to own (I've had a 240sx for a whole decade now, probably some kind of record /s) but I don't have any particular interest in over the top stuff or 'the car scene'. For those reasons FM7 should be the game for me but I'm actually on the fence.

The handling in FM7 is superior. It is more realistic without getting too punishing for owning a controller. It should probably be used in both games but again MS and the devs want the games to be different so FH3 doesn't feel as nice in terms of handling. I also prefer the tracks in FM7 as opposed to the 'tracks' in FH3. FH3 tracks mostly focus on having lots of power AND the upgrade system heavily favors power. Those decisions are probably once again just the devs trying to make the two games sufficiently different. Lastly, FM7 offers a bit of power versus handling variety in the track layouts and also handling variations for weather...something that can only be said about FH3 if you buy the expansions(Blizzard Mountain is one of my favorite game expansions ever).

So I've said a lot of good things about FM7 but the problem is I'm finding FM7 a bit boring. The career mode feels half-baked. 90% of the time I have to use cars I'm not really interested in PLUS homologation ensures that I can press 'A' until I'm on the track and my car will be competitive which makes those vehicles even less interesting to me. I don't even understand why I bother to do career mode at all because honestly free-play offers me more choice and what appears to be the same payout. Payout being the important bit because progression is tied to buying enough cars to unlock tiers of cars that are more "rare".

Anyway, my point is simple. FM7 is the better feeling game, if you prefer the best driving dynamics and you prefer tracks then it's typical Forza and that means it is good just be aware that there is real potential for it to be a bit too dry. FH3 on the other hand is better at being a game because it offers more diversity and freedom of choice and once again it is Forza so that means it is good as well. Both are good, I'd buy both again just pick the one that has the type of driving you are looking for.
