Found this at the hotel I work at. Thought I'd share. Thoughts?

Hello! OP here. This got more attention than I expected so I just wanted to add my thoughts.

I understand the technology isn't that new. I guess what bothered me most was the 'confidential' aspect. I respect the need to practice discretion in what information one shares with guests but when the guest is the target of this 'digital marketing' I feel like we should at least be at liberty to talk about it.

From what I could tell there were several of these beacons installed throughout the property. If it were simply a way to 'check in' then there would only be one in the lobby. It certainly seems like they are placed to be able to triangulate a phones precise location.

While I suppose that level of accuracy could be a benefit to law enforcement in certain scenarios or in a store that wants to know what aisles you spend the most time in... In a small hotel? Guests on property are either in the lobby or in their room. How is their precise location on the property of any benefit to marketing strategies? Only thought would be eventually allowing guests to find their rooms with directions on their smart phone. But again, it's a rather small hotel and why would that be confidential. What're you up to Google?
