Why would the Chinese diaspora care about gun laws?

It's part of the culture. China historically had heavy regulation on private gun ownership and weapon ownership in general - the place that invented firearms also invented the first gun laws. There weren't a lot of firearms per capita floating around in China, legal or otherwise, so their opinion towards guns is going to lean towards the negative, especially given the tumultuous recent history of the country. Thirty years of civil war, a violent Japanese invasion, followed by a Communist takeover - or simply put it, armed men coming into home/businesses and ruining your day.

At least from my perspective, a lot of Chinese-Canadians here in metropolitan Toronto are antagonist towards firearms for the same reason and fears that most anti-gun advocates hold. When I got my PAL, my parents questioned me why I got it in the first place. My grandma thought I was involved with criminal gangs when she learned I owned a handgun, and even confronted me about (that was super awkward). Most of my family and their friends are worried that the gun violence in the States could "spill" over here.

My dad has a fishing buddy who shoots clay and duck hunts, which in turn got him to warmed up to gun ownership after a trip to the skeet club. I tried to push him to get his PAL, but he's convince his English proficiency isn't good enough for him to pass the course. In private, my mom told me she was relieved he wasn't going for it, because she was afraid that he might do something stupid if he had a gun.
