Four months into the COVID-19 pandemic, Sweden’s prized herd immunity is nowhere in sight

I live in Sweden and we have been in de-facto lockdown since June when all schools and many workers started their summer vacation. The daily deaths reach single digits from that time, so it may very well be because of that reason alone. Time will tell, but Sweden has more deaths per capita than most countries in the world at this moment and their economy has not been spared more than all countries with stricter restrictions.

Some people also mention that herd immunity was not their goal but if one looks at the interviews and mails by the leaders of the strategy it seems more like that is only what they say in public to avoid criticism. There are mails that imply that they let schools stay open so children would infect others in a ‘controlled‘ manner and face masks are not recommended in any situation even when social distancing is impossible.
