The Framework Laptop, a fully repairable and upgradable laptop is available for pre-order in the US now!

That response seems to be from before wherever Louis Rossmann was quoted. In the description of that video

A lot of my questions were answered in the pinned comment thread. While obviously considerably ahead of other brands, I am skeptical. They invoke right to repair numerous times in their marketing materials & on their site, but can't give a straight answer as to whether schematics will be available for the board.

It doesn't seem like he's sure on the situation here but in the first quote

I spoke with the founder and I understand the explanation they gave me on why they aren't releasing schematics.

it seems like he thinks they 100% aren't giving schematics.

Rest of the back and forth in the comments under the video for context

4) Define full source. Is a schematic or boardview like what I use in repair videos considered "source" ? Excuse my ignorance, I haven't heard that term used for hardware, just source code for firmware or software. The "what we can to make board-level repair possible" is vague but I look forward to clarification on what this means.

@Louis Rossmann on 4) I guess the confusion is mutual! I'd love to learn more about what would be most helpful to enable board reworks.

Louis Rossman

@Framework The board schematic/boardview file like this https://youtu.be/7UBy7L3YzLg?list=PLkVbIsAWN2lsHdY7ldAAgtJug50pRNQv0&t=414 see at 6:56 on screen in this video

At the moment in the consumer laptop repair/cellphone repair industry all of these schematics are usually leaked to sites like vinafix by someone who winds up getting fired/sent to prison when they finally get caught, and people like me go to sites like vinafix or notebook schematics to find them. The companies don't sell access to this even if we became authorized repair centers, or were willing to pay a subscription fee for access to them. Sometimes they're not available for certain models, or only available after a long time has passed. It's like trying to buy weed without getting caught in high school, and aggravating. My question was, would something like this be made available to people who wish to repair framework products!

Thanks!

Framework

@Louis Rossmann Got it! I want to avoid overpromising anything in a comment thread. I definitely understand the ask and the value of having that information available for board-level repairs, and will determine what we can do around it.

This is one of those details I am sad wasn't worked out prior to right to repair branding/support for right to repair being used to advertise the product. We don't have schematics or die t-shirts for nothing! It's one of the key principles in right to repair. I'll hope for a favorable answer. I appreciate how much you've answered and how quickly up to this point, and how you're putting in efforts to be better than other manufacturers. Thanks again.
