France ‘expels’ controversial Salafist preacher to Algeria

A lot of our values really are, that's the problem. They're not isolated, they're part of a coherent and far-reaching ethical, philosophical and logical tradition. You can't just eliminate something like due process "for some select cases" and claim the construct still stands. You can maybe close some loopholes and accelerate some specific cases, but by the nature of the thing the people abusing us are always a step ahead. And while we play whack-a-mole, their values are gaining ground.

Ultimately, the ideology Europe is built upon nowadays requires that the vast majority of people recognize and follow it - if they don't, it's toothless and doomed to fail because we thought we were beyond this kind of thing. And it appears we were wrong.
