Well I think the argument they’re making is more predicated on Mbappe having the ability to not accept taking funds from Qatar and moving to a completely different club that can afford him and showed interest (difference between Qatar and Perez).
The reason it’s faulty is that it’s not exactly a realistic argument to make, but it’s not like it’s even close to the same thing as someone using a device that they really can’t exactly have any sort of personal choice as to how it was produced. One would have to forgo any sort of ownership of a mobile device, which is almost a necessity in our world at this stage.
Mbappe is able to choose a different club with “cleaner ownership” and will not be substantially affected by it. If anything he may benefit from it (like going to Madrid instead of Paris). I don’t think there’s a similarity between a critique of someone’s moral quality in choosing to represent and be actively part of sports washing (of course this assumes a full awareness by the player) and a “refutation” of that critique by implying that the person’s a hypocrite for that moral critique.
