Last night I went to return a shirt at Primark and whilst we were in the store, I found a bus pass and ID on the floor in one of those plastic wallet things, there was also 100 euros in it (which would've made life a lot easier for me for the next few weeks as I'm trying to find a new apartment and struggling to get the money together for a deposit).
The girl on the ID looked no older than 11-12 and I thought that seeing her reaction to getting the money back would be way better than keeping it.. and I was right. My girlfriend wanted to send it by post and I told her that it'd be much better if we took it to her. I looked up the address on GMaps and it was only 15 mins away on the train, so off we went!
When we got there, a girl who was about 14 answered the door and my girlfriend told her (in German - I'm English and don't speak it) that we'd found the ID with 100 euros in it and she just started crying her eyes out with a huge, grateful smile on her face. I was trying to hold back the tears myself!
Just as we were leaving, her Mum returned home and just as we got to the U-bahn (which was directly opposite their flat) she came running out of the door and came to us, thanking us for being such nice people as most people would've kept the money. She said that her Dad had sent the money for her to buy new clothes and things and she doesn't get to see her Dad often. She shook our hands and said thank you and we went on our way.
Between the time I found the money and giving it back, I was thinking about what I could do with 100 euros, but no amount of money could replicate the feeling I felt when I gave it back to the girl and she started crying.
Last week I sold my PS3 and all my games (incluring an original Tournament Edition SF4 Arcade stick which was my pride and joy) to buy my girlfriend a new phone because I think she's suffering slightly from postnatal depression (we had a baby a month ago) and her old phone was a piece of shit.
