The GOTY deliberations convinced me to play Assassin's Creed. Not Odyssey -- god, no -- but hearing Alex talk briefly about it convinced me to finally check out Origins.

I'm about six hours in and I'm enjoying it a lot! I haven't really played one of these games and enjoyed it since Brotherhood, I never played most of the ones that followed, and I could never get into Black Flag despite multiple attempts to do so. With Origins though, it takes a good two hours or so before it reveals any Animus bull shit, Bayek and Aya are the best (#relationshipgoals), and the changes Origins makes to the AC formula make me a lot more interested in the act of playing it. It also helps that this game's setting is reminding me just how obsessed I was with Ancient Egypt as a little kid as well Egyptian mythology as a less little kid who played too much Age of Mythology. I dunno, I'm just excited to see where this game goes, which has never been a feeling I associated with an AC game since the very first one.
