Free Talk Friday!

It was Environmental studies, we have to study two irrelevant subjects each year except the ones we have chosen (Social Work)

She lives in Colorado but she's not the reason I'm moving there. At least primarily. That would be too reckless. I'm moving there because I want to work for the betterment of people, that was my whole reason to take up social work in the first place, but social work is too limited, case work and group work I've found to be condescending and patronizing, community organization and advocacy are what I'm interested at. There isn't enough scope for such work here, especially when the whole country is being run by religious right wing conservatives right now.

Go over to /r/india and all secularism, socialism and any kind of -ism that favors people over profit are called derogatory terms, govt. has a brilliant PR team, NGOs are on chopping blocks with respected organizations like Greenpeace having their accounts frozen because of being 'funded by western governments to be anti-development'. Super patriotic indians love it when they get their bias of 'the whole world is jealous of India and it's culture, they want to keep us down' confirmed, and are only too happy to follow in the government's lead.

Minorities feel threatened, our recent budget cut down on public health and expenditure, on welfare (Cause India is a beacon of good health and we totally don't have any malnourishment), and have removed variety of taxes on big businesses, a recent bill that would allow private businesses to snatch land from poor farmers is being passed in the near future, all the while forgoing revenue from big industries, precious gems/stones, etc.

Oh, and who do Greenpeace campaign against, big coal and gas companies, like Essar, and industrialists who 'support' the political parties? Hmm, not shady at all!

Most of the 'educated' indians in the biggest cities working in corporate firms are totally up for development. Of course, such development would mean screwing over the poor, fucking up the environment, but MUH INDIA BEST SUPERPOWER!.

How long till we start seeing climate change deniers, I don't even know.
