I have had a right nightmare this festive period. Down in Devon visiting my mum for Christmas and me and a mate decide to go to Forest Green Rovers - Carlisle on the 23rd to see some football and cross another stadium off the list. Game went along fine (although FGR were pretty poor but I did have a lovely vegan burger) and we begin our drive back home.
I arrive at my exit in Tiverton and realise my windscreen is covered in rainwater. Puzzled because I knew I had turned my wipers on, I tried turning them on again and could only hear a clicking noise. Had to nurse the car home with a wet windscreen and in the dark but we made it.
Christmas Eve, I ring the RAC in the morning explaining the problem and they asked what was the latest I would at home today. I said 1 o’clock, they said okay. 12:15 arrives and the RAC ring again saying they’ll be here by 3 at the latest.
2:15 rolls around and they ring saying they’re sending a local garage as they are too busy and that the garageman will be here in 60-90 minutes. 3:45 rolls around and no sign so I ring the RAC explaining I need to go to a choir performance I’d promised my mother I’d go to and could they come back on Boxing Day. They said sure and they booked me in for a 10-12 slot on Boxing Day.
On Boxing Day, I had planned to go with another mate to Enter - Forest Green and St James’ is about an hour and 15 minutes from my house. Thought great, they can fix my car in the morning and I can go. Ring at 11 just to confirm they are coming and am told yes they are on their way. 12:15, no one has come so i ring again and they said there was a system error and no one was actually coming, they will send someone now. 1:15 an RAC man says he is coming and 15 minutes away.
He has a fiddle with it and informs me it is the wiper motor that is broken and needs to go to a garage. So no football for me that day (the Exeter game was later called off at half time due to heavy rain)
Took it to the garage was told you have to get the wiper motor direct from fiat and the part alone would could £150 and that’s without labor. So all in all, I’m £150+ this Christmas time.
tl:dr Car’s wipers broke on the way home from football. Ended up missing more football and am now £150 down.
