Free Talk Fridays - Week of January 09, 2015

Well, with the anime just starting up, now might be a good time to get into Ass Class.

Boku no Hero Academia started relatively recently, and it looks incredibly promising. It's shounen through-and-through, but somehow, still feels fresh. Highly recommend.

If you're looking for something maybe less mainstream, I'm a big fan of Jitsu wa Watashi wa. It's your basic harem-with-a-little-twist kind of plot, but what really gets me is the art style. Normally the huge eyes in manga/anime are a turnoff for me because they're so disproportionate. A person's open mouth should not be half the size of their eye. But in this series, the mouths take up the entire bottom half of the face. I don't care if it's not accurate anatomy, at least it's proportional! Besides, I like the characters and all their little quirks, so I'm really looking forward to it every week.

One-Punch Man I just recommend. The original writer, ONE, drew and it published it online I believe, but now he's collaborating with Murata Yuusuke, the artist of Eyeshield 21 (among others), and he's redrawing everything he did. The release schedule is pretty wonky and unreliable, but oh man, is it worth it. Murata's been turning stuff like this into stuff like this. This manga is beautiful. It's fucking ART, man. This is probably the best example: This is ONE's drawing of a spaceship. This is Murata's.

And now I'll just rattle some off, because I'm reading quite a few currently.

Aho Girl is a fun little 4koma from the writer/artist of Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to, which had a 1-cour anime last season.

Might not be your thing, but MonMusu Nichijou is a favorite of mine. I've just got a thing for monster girls, but if you do too, you better get on this. Titties every chapter!

Something about Boku Girl's art style really draws me in, so if you like the sudden-gender-swap-hijinks story, definitely check this out. Also, Loki (yes, that Loki) is in it as a loli. So that's fun, too.

Trinity Sven and Shokugeki no Soma both of anime airing this season, too, so they're worth a read too, I'd say.

I tihnk that's a good amount for now, but let me know if you've already read these, or want more, or something different. I actually prefer reading manga to watching anime, but /r/manga isn't nearly as active, so here I am!
