Free Talk Fridays - Week of April 03, 2015

1. How’re you doing today (or this week in general)? Did you do anything fun?

I got back from Athens earlier this week. I had a fun time but there's honestly not much to see within the city itself. I suppose that I've been spoiled by having gone to London/Paris/Amsterdam/Berlin/Rome, each of which can easily support a full two weeks of museum-visiting and touristy stuff with a whole bunch left over.

The saving grace is that the rail and sea links are pretty good. If anyone's heading that way, allocate about three days to see the Parthenon/Acropolis, the museums, and a general city tour, then plan to head out of the city itself to other areas like Corinth or Delphi, or take a tour of the nearby islands. You are going to be bored stiff if you want to spend an entire fortnight in the city of Athens itself as a tourist.

2. Did you prank anyone on April Fool’s Day? If so, what did you do?

Not really. About the most I did in that regard was to bury a friend's AFK Minecraft avatar in a shell of dirt, but I'd do that any day of the year.

3. What’s your favorite genre of music?

I mostly go in for film/TV soundtracks these days. They're great for listening to while you're doing something else, as they're explicitly designed to get an emotional response while being played in the background.

4. What’s your favorite song of all time? Also, what’s your favorite song/album from this decade?

Tricky question, as mine changes all the time. I'm listening to Arcade Fire's The Suburbs a lot recently, so let's go with that.

5. Marry Fuck Kill: /u/mightyeggroll, /u/EwotAbbasmoi, /u/x87823199x

No idea who any of them are beyond seeing a comment here or there. I'm on /r/anime a lot, but not that much.

6. Are you intelligent, nihilistic and have a wicked sense of humor? (/u/Taiboss asked me to include this)

Never taken an IQ test. I have two Bachelors and a Master's Degree, so I suppose that sets a baseline of at least average? Nihilistic? No. It seems a bit of a waste of time. My personal humour tends towards the punny.

7. What’s your thoughts on pizza?

An incredibly tasty way to get fat very quickly. I pretty much cook for myself, seven days a week, and don't have access to an oven. The only meal I cook semi-regularly that even approximates a pizza is panfried flatbread topped with olive oil and homegrown tomatoes.

8. Who’s your favorite /r/anime frequenter? And to contrast, who’s your least favorite /r/anime frequenter (it better not be me)?

You. And you. But, seriously, I don't pay much attention to who makes the comments.

9. Also, who do you think is the funniest /r/anime frequenter?

I really don't know.

10. Would you fuck a blender or a cheese grater? (Creds to /u/mightyeggroll)

The blender, naturally. It takes effort to get a partner turned on, so all I need to do is apply my natural laziness and I'm fucking air.

11. Are you a boy or a girl? Or are you something else?

I'm 100% man, baby.

12. If you were a anime character what would your name be?

What a weird question. My real name is Gareth, so I'd probably need to switch to [Gaz]() to avoid the L/R difficulties.

13. Does watching anime take most of your free time?

Nope. It used to, but I'm in recovery!

14. Are you a pleb, a nerd, or a geek?

Nope.

15. What’s your favorite book? LNs don’t count.

Godel, Escher, Bach by Douglas Hofstadter.

16. What is your first memory of playing a video game?

Playing Crystal Castles on an old BBC Micro.

17. If anime was real what character type would you be?

Background character. I mean, it's statistically the most likely, and I'm not sure that I'd be able to hand the shit thrown at the average anime protagonist.

18. Who’s your favorite mod? Or if you want, who’s your least favorite mod?

/u/AutoModerator.

19. Have you ever created fanfics of the mods? If so, show examples.

No...

20. Arr you a pirate?

I kind of have to be, as I currently have zero income. I mooch off of the occasional free CrunchyRoll pass, and if there's a legal free stream (Hulu, for example) I'll watch that over pirating, but I just can't justify spending non-existent income on anime. I've been living off of an average of £6,000 a year for the past half decade.

21. Why does /u/Across52317 (Fish onee-sama) like to shitpost so much?

Why are so many of these questions about specific /r/anime users? I honestly don't give a shit.

22. Have you ever been to another anime related forum before, were they better than /r/anime? (inb4 /a/)

/a/, despite the inb4. Also a couple of other anime-related subreddits. I'm a semi-regular at /r/animesuggest, for example.
