Not an anime, but I suggest giving OPEN a read. I don't think you need to be a tennis fan to really love this book because the journey that the Andre Agassi wrote of his life is a real rollercoaster of emotions. This man was forced into tennis by his father who put him up against a ball machine that shot tennis balls at 100+ MPH at his ~6 year old son who could not pick up the balls on the floor until all the balls were out of the machine, putting him at risk of tripping on one. The quickly rose towards the top of the tennis professional scene as a youngster but eventually falls into depression and use of crystal meth.

I'll let you read into the rest. He doesn't exactly resent the sport anymore- in fact he still plays with the older players even though he is now retired. This is a man who's been both broken and rebuilt by the sport his life is defined by. I think you'll love it.

As for anime, I guess Sakurasou has these themes but I didn't like the show personally.
