Freedom Mobile announces closure of a call centre that JUST unionized.

Not true.

There are several industries that are regulated under federal jurisdiction.

Telecommunications is one of those industries. railway, and nuclear generation for example are all private sec jobs that wages, and labour codes are defined by the Canadian Labour Standards, rather than provincial ones. The federal minimum wage, and the one that applies to these industries is different than the provincial one.

Under federal law the min wage defaults to the minimum wage of the location the employee works UNLESS a collective agreement already in place has bargained for a different wage before a wage change is implemented.

As Freedom mobile workers had signed a contract at minimum wage in Ontario back before the liberals raised minimum wage, these workers would have retained their bargained wage until their contract was renegotiated
