Freedom OF vs. Freedom FROM Religion

Holy Shit! I mean literally, that's holy shit. Let's see what the Supreme Court has to say about that...

*Wallace v. Jaffree, 472 U.S. 38 (1985), Justice John Paul Stevens says: "... the Court has unambiguously concluded that the individual freedom of conscience protected by the First Amendment embraces the right to select any religious faith or none at all. This conclusion derives support not only from the interest in respecting the individual's freedom of conscience, but also from the conviction that religious beliefs worthy of respect are the product of free and voluntary choice by the faithful, and from recognition of the fact that the political interest in forestalling intolerance extends beyond intolerance among Christian sects - or even intolerance among 'religions' - to encompass intolerance of the disbeliever and the uncertain."

In 1968 Epperson v. State of Arkansas. Justice Arthur Goldberg says, "Government ... must be neutral in matters of religious theory, doctrine, and practice. ... The First Amendment mandates governmental neutrality between religion and religion, and between religion and nonreligion." ... "“It may not be hostile to any religion or to the advocacy of no religion; and it may not aid, foster, or promote one religion or religious theory against another or even against the militant opposite.”*

A multi-culture class should be working progressively, not retrogressing. The purpose of such a class is to spread understanding, not propaganda. My condolences for your being stuck in Georgia. So the question is now what to do about it. There is no particular need to be a martyr and jeopardize your grade, so I would suggest waiting until you are done with the class and have no chance of having that instructor again. Work your way up the ladder - Start with the instructor to see how well the professor takes to real education. Continue up the ladder in the administration hoping to find someone who isn't an evangelical. If results don't come about, try contacting the Freedom From Religion Foundation, www.ffrf.org , to see if they can be of assistance.

In small ways we can gradually make the world a better place.
