French police charging firefighters

police in the real world are not the way they appear on TV. most of the "crime" they are policing are things that profit them - traffic tickets, civil asset forfeiture etc. and things that boost their stats like arresting black teenagers for tiny/non-existant offences (in some places, being a black teenager in a group of 3 or more people is "suspicious" enough to warrant being picked up by a cop).

for real crimes they typically solve single-digit percentages of cases. I've read anywhere from 2%-10% of major crimes.

personally I don't think that's doing very much for the community. definitely not anywhere near as much as firefighters, who typically put out 100% of fires. or EMTs, or about 50 other jobs I can think of.
