[FRESH LIST] Top 200 Albums of the 2010s - Anthony Fantano

What do you mean by knowledge of hip hop? He’s been reviewing it for a decade and also went in depth about some of the classic hip hop albums/artists before. He’s a fan of punk, jazz and funk music, which all had massive influence on hip hop. I’m just saying, you need to be pretty up to date about music history to be able to cover so many genres, and his ‘knowledge’ in hip hop is definitely richer than other critics. Just because he hasn’t been physically around it, like Sway, that doesn’t undermine his opinion.

Also does knowledge on the subject really matter over pure enjoyment of the music? At certain points, yes, it adds context and a new layer to the art, but you can still be a fan and not pay attention to what’s around the music itself.
