Marxist analysis of alcoholism: The stresses capitalism places on the working class drives them to find some form of relief. Ideally, this relief would be found in the comfort of friendship, but the culture of “hardwork” created by capitalism keeps workers from being available to their friends most of the time, and any mental health services that would be available to struggling people are underfunded and are purposefully designed to be ineffective so that the ruling class doesn’t have to invest too much money into it.

So instead of proper, professional help, workers seek to inebriate themselves using alcohol, a commodity that is commercially sold for profit, thus ensuring that even when trying to escape from the horrors of capitalism, workers are still doomed to play into it.
