[Friday] Weekly What Have You Been Listening To Edition EARLY MORNING EDITION

4x4

Jeff Rosenstock - We Cool?: One of my favorite releases of the year to this point. Nausea and You, In Weird Cities are probably gonna end up being 2 of my top played songs of the year. Amazing songwriting, really nice Indie Punk sound. If you're into Pop Punk or Indie Punk and like depressing, self-deprecating songwriting give this a listen.

AJJ - Knife Man: Checked this out after looking for more stuff like 'We Cool?' and ended up really loving it. Again really fantastic, sad songwriting. More of a Folk Punk vibe but there's a lot of tracks on here like Gift of The Magi 2 and Skate Park that are more Punk/Indie Punk.

The Cure - Pornography: Awesome Post-Punk album. There's such a gloomy feel to the vocals that really sets these guys apart. If you're into Joy Division check this project out.

Mac DeMarco - Salad Days: On first listen this album really didn't do a whole lot to impress me but there was definitely an infectious vibe to it. It's really an enjoyable listen and as the album progresses to songs like Passing Out Pieces and Treat Her Better, I think the melodies become catchier and the songwriting overall is just more interesting.

Ratking - 700 Fill: First listen I was pretty disappointed in the change in sound from So It Goes. The Urban undertones to the production and the more aggressive deliveries really jumped out at you right away and that was something I missed from this project. It has definitely grown on me though. Sure the production isn't as unique (First side reminds me of something off of Mac's Faces and the second side sounds like something off a BONES mixtape) but it's definitely well done. Still looking forward to what they'll release next.

Apathy - Connecticut Casual: Haven't seen much mention of this album but it was seriously impressive. Plus, being from Connecticut the New England references are on point. Just a really solid underground hip-hop project.

Kyuss - Welcome To Sky Valley: Been getting into Stoner Rock a bit lately so I decided to check this out. Felt this was a pretty solid project, the more psychedelic moments really stood out as my favorite parts of the album.

Moon Duo - Shadow Of The Sun: Cool psychedelic rock album with heavy reverb on the vocals and some ambient/drone elements. Besides the darker, almost industrial vibe to their sound I didn't feel there was a lot of creativity here. The compositions were all pretty straightforward. Still a solid project though.
