[Friday] What have you been listening to? - - January 08, 2016

After the disaster that was trying to go vegan after New Year's last year, I decided to do something a little less extreme this year and listen to at least one album every day. This week --

Sufjan Stevens, Carrie & Lowell - Got the vinyl for Christmas so it was my default first album of 2016. I don't really have anything to say about it that hasn't already been said 213,921 times on this sub, it's an excellent album and a good entry point to Sufjan's music. Favorite track: Eugene

Candy Claws, Hidden Lands - A cool album to check out if you like MBV but wish they did more drugs. Really enjoyed it, will definitely be checking out more of their stuff. Favorite track: Sunbeam Show

M83, Saturdays = Youth - Still have to say I don't really get the hype about this album (for an M83 album, that is). "Couleurs" is a standout track but I've always felt S=Y lacked the atmosphere of Before the Dawn Heals Us which was really perfected on HUWD. Favorite track: Couleurs

Beach House, Thank Your Lucky Stars - Hadn't listened to this when it came out (I feel like I don't care about this band as much as I should), but at least now I know I firmly believe Depression Cherry to be superior. Favorite track: Elegy to the Void

Los Campesinos!, Hold On Now, Youngster... - I love this album so much. It was one of my favorites in early high school and it's working for me well in early college too. Favorite track: This is How You Spell "HAHAHA, We Destroyed the Hopes and Dreams of a Generation of Faux-Romantics"

Braids, Native Speaker - Another revisit from early high school. Passively enjoyed it, production is stellar. Favorite track: Glass Deers
