Friendlyjordies does a good job of explaining the actions other prime ministers have taken in regards to natural disasters in comparison to what scomo has done

I'll use the US as an example but you saw the same stuff play out in France, Brazil, Poland, Britain, etc. The common thread are these are all countries with strong neo-liberal policies, unlike more social democratic countries like Germany or Norway.

Since the Reagan era the US has oscillated between neo-conservatives and neo-liberals in the highest seats of power. Always staying near the center and always putting capital interests above all else. It worked for a time as the middle class held strong and the majority in the US was able to live in relative comfort. This all came to a head in Obama's last two years. It became evident that the platform he ran on was a sham. Income inequality was still growing at a rapid pace, health care was still prohibitively expensive and most importantly the quality of life for workers had not improved in any tangible way.

Come election season workers had no choice but to go with a candidate that promised to bring about radical change. The rich and powerful of this nation saw the writing on the wall. The great balancing act along the center was failing and the only way they could hold onto their wealth was to take a big leap to the right. Trump was the perfect candidate to meet this end. His presidency represented an end to the status quo. An end the civility that had been used to mask the dark underbelly of our political system. Loud, brash, unafraid to speak his mind, but most importantly he would work to protect capital interests.

And that is why Trump won. Not Russian bots, not because of misogyny but because the proletariat of this country were forced into a corner. Dark times are ahead of us. If the left cannot unify behind a candidate who will work for our interests then Trump will win again.
