Friends and Facebook

I can relate. I have decided to keep my Facebook profile dormant. It is there in case anyone who really wants and needs to find me can.

However I am not actively participarting in that ecosystem. It is too toxic for me. I feel I am seeing only highly curated pieces of peoples lives. It does not feel genuine. I won’t even touch Instagram for these same reasons.

In Facebook, I have removed all my posts, deleted all my pictures, unfriended people unimportant. It is only a skeleton profile. I log in every few months, usually when Facebook tells me someone is attempting to hack my account and I need to change my password.

To date, only one long lost childhood friend has traced me. Facebook’s algorithm also found my old college roommate as a friend suggestion. That’s the only value I am getting out of it now as a networking tool. From there, I keep in touch the old fashion way: post cards and hand-written letters.
