From Deadline: JJ Abrams HBO Max Constantine still on a solid ground, moving along and is set on a diverse lead

It’s not that they’re talking about casting someone nonwhite, it’s that they’re set on a diverse lead implies a preference to pandering rather than out right casting the best for the role

On your comment on representation, yes representation is important without a doubt, but about your comment on mostly white hero’s… the us population (where most comics are based) is mostly white. It’s accurate representation to the population. This isn’t to say there shouldn’t be non white hero’s there absolutely should but I don’t the complaint against something that logically makes sense. Not to mention when most these characters were created the population was more heavily skewed that’s it is now, but I don’t think the answer is to be set on a diverse lead for a non diverse (literally blond hair blue eyed) when there are actual diverse characters yet to be explored (John Stewart prime and center) when you go about it trying to pigeon hole a diverse person for the sake of diversity just screams tokenism to me

Again this (to me atleast) is not about them casting a black person etc as Constantine it’s about shamelessly pushing for a diverse lead instead of focusing on the actor that is best suited for the role.

(Its like saying we want James Bond to be black no matter what, vs damn Idris Elba killed it in that audition and he just encapsulates the role and what we want to convey) reactionary vs pandering
