From a strictly technical boxing standpoint, how can anyone dislike Floyd ?

How can anyone say he isn't the best of our era?

No one can say that.

From a technical boxing standpoint, how can anyone dislike Floyd?

That's a completely different discussion. I will admit that Floyd is the best of his era but that does not mean I have to enjoy his fighting style. I love movies but I can't sit and watch "The King's Speech" or "The Artist" even though they are regarded as masterpieces of modern cinema. I think Chekhov's work is quite boring, he is considered the greatest fiction writer (I like Daniel Brown). Plenty of people find Tim Duncan a.k.a Mr. Fundamentals boring to watch. I see certain similarities between boxing and music, how they are perceived by the fans. A lot of people listen to Tupac, Wutang, Nas, Kendrick etc. because its "real hip-hop" and if you enjoy listening to certain young artists today then you don't know shit about real music. It's the same thing with boxing; even when a good technical fighter is involved in a boring fight, people won't call it boring but rather a "technical display" or a "chess match". There's this misconception that only the true hardcore fans can appreciate the technical ability of Floyd or Ward or Rigondeaux. This can cause people to hide their true feelings because no one really wants to look like a casual. Some people might genuinely enjoy watching Floyd fight. Personally, I like a few of his fights but he's not a fighter I watch on a regular basis (unlike Toney or Hearns). I don't have to be dazzled by his style to rate him high. I understand what he's capable of and I agree that he's the best boxer of his era and one of the best ever. Your interests or your preferences don't define your understanding of the sport. Hardcore and the casuals fans both love Allen Iverson, Kobe, MJ, Shaq etc. Same goes for guys like Roy Jones, Lomachenko, Ali, Ray Leonard, Pacquiao, Oscar in boxing. A few decades ago, there was a brilliant boxer by the name of Michael Nunn who was often involved in lackluster fights. He was one of the best fighters on the planet but he couldn't secure any big fights against guys like Ray Leonard, Hearns or Duran because people weren't interested in watching Nunn. That's all it really comes down to, what interests the public. If I put on Barrera-Morales I, it doesn't matter whether you're a casual or a hardcore fan, you will enjoy the fight. If I put on Mayweather vs Pacquiao (the biggest fight in boxing history), I doubt many will be entertained even though it's a technical fight at the highest level. Very few can actually comprehend the tactical affair taking place because it's very subtle and even if you can comprehend it, it doesn't make it entertaining. This is just how I see things, I prefer a good fight over a good performance. I can appreciate a good performance (Mayweather-Canelo) but I'd rather watch GGG-Canelo which was both technical and entertaining.
