I moved from my hometown in Ontario to central Alberta (city of 100k) with my husband. He makes 30% more in his field here, and we pay less taxes. Housing is very affordable and after saving for a couple years, we bought our first home earlier this year, 260K for a 3 bed/2bath in a safe/nice neighborhood near a park my dog loves. Literally all of my family/friends are in Ontario, and we're expecting our first child in a couple months. I'm sad our won't be raised around his grandparents, because unless something drastic happens to the Ontario housing market, we won't be moving back. Moving away sucks, it's hard, it does depend on luck to a certain extent - and it's not fair - but it's an option.
