To the frugals on here who have a 15 year old + set of wheels

2006 Astra CDTI. Have owned it since new, has about 85000km. Costs us about $1500/yr in rego & service plus ~$80 on fuel every 2-3 months. Has never had a major problem. Drives well (esp with sport mode), even if it sounds like a tractor and is a little beaten up. Also tows a trailer!

We only really use it for a weekly grocery run and the occasional bad weather school run, all other family transport is PT, cycling or walking.

We could afford to update it (and often think about it), just hard to justify a status symbol with more kms when we could keep those dollars on the mortgage.

I drove my mum’s BMW X1 over Xmas and thought that’d make me jealous enough to finally do it, but they’ve both got four wheels and would collect the same amount of dust. Will probably drive it until it dies and get something really nice when the kids are bigger
