Frustrated with lack of progress, finding personal style [portfolio]

I like the first few images in particular, because they are photos "about the performer" not just photos "of the performer"

I can't speak to style for this sort of shot though.... if you have a passion for a particular genre or band then maybe try to become part of that band's inner circle or submit work to that fan base's favourite websites / magazines (?)

If you want to do more portrait work etc, I heard advice from Joe Edelman (youtuber) recently where he started doing extremely high-concept shots with a few models AFTER they'd done the paidfor headshots / whatever if they had time. IE heavily made-up / over the top settings / wigs etc.

He put these in his online portfolio almost for laughs, but noticed they increased his bookings for "regular photos"... IE the reaction of prospective clients seemed to be "wow if he can take these amazing pics he can certainly do my product photos"

So maybe that's a thought for your portrait bookings :)

I don't know what you shoot with, but if it's not gear that gets you excited to use it, maybe consider your options there.... sell what you don't use / buy some weird old manual lens with swirly bokeh, or a HSS capable strobe and go overpower the sun somewhere... mix it up :)

Life's too short -
