Funerals are overrated

Funerals in other cultures are more like parties. Where they celebrate and share the experiences they had with you and form new connections out of it. A funeral where people get a healthy distraction from the death AND new opportunities for doing so. Meanwhile western funerals discourage you telling that story that would be funny any other time about what you and the recent dead guy did, in favor of twiddling your thumbs quietly and possibly repressing your emotions until you get home.

I stopped going to funerals after the first one. My way of coping is to lighten the mood, not pretend I'm more upset than I truly am because I might get accused of not caring if I'm not stotic or weeping.
