Before going to bed, I was at full LP. My hands were feeling a bit cold, so I figured I'd play under the blankets to keep them warm. I started up a 3EX Medley right away.
Halfway through the first song, disaster struck. Unwittingly, a slight movement was made and all of a sudden a valley between my hands and my head could be observed from the outside the blankets. Only I was not outside the blankets, but under them. And of course, the blanket had to be perfectly in place between my eyes and the screen. And of course, the first song had to be a very forgiving song named Daring!
It is difficult enough to get a full combo on an EX song. Trying to do this without being able to see the screen is on a whole different level. I quickly let my right hand go from my phone to wave away the cloth obstructing my view, only to have it immediately return to its comfortable spot in directly front of my eyes. Inertia at its finest! Or perhaps applying the concept of entropy to describe the scenario was more appropriate? Either way, this was not good!
I was now realizing how dangerous this situation was. There was no way I was going to be able to find the pause button on the screen without looking at it. With only one hand supporting my phone, there was no way I would be able to avoid dropping it if I were to feel around for physical buttons. I desperately tried throwing the blanket off, only to realize it was trapped under my side as I was lying on it. The seal of warmth I had developed through months of research was now my greatest enemy!
I flailed around in a panic. Somehow I managed to get my right hand back in playing position. It's not over until it's over! I tapped my thumbs on the screen like a madman, as if making up for those already missed notes.
Suddenly the music stopped. My thumbs stopped moving. Slowly, I pulled the blanket out from under my side and threw it forwards. What I now saw on the screen gave me chills. Or was that simply the temperature difference due to coming out from under the warm covers to the cool air?
Immediately, feelings of shame washed over me. How could I have let this happen? I must now commit electronic seppuku by destroying my months of hard work on my game account! But it's impossible... I just can't give up my beloved idols!
Wait that's right! I chuckled. The angles of my lips slowly moved upwards into a smile. I can't give up now. It's not over until it's over, right? Making sure there was nothing that could possibly get in the between me and my idols again, I got into playing position and selected the option for 'yes'.
