The future of Colombians in the US

I'm an American from Georgia who works in Colombia, and I have children here. Kind of opposite as you. I think when you move to a new place you should fit into the local culture. I'm teaching my kid English, but it's definitely not a "source of pride" or anything...

USA is actually a really easy place to integrate to. Where I'm from (Georgia), I don't care what color you are, dress like a normal American and speak English, walk into any church on a Sunday to "praise the lord" and I promise you will make connections in the community. When you go to apply for a job, and they'll say "oh that's Jorge from church, he's a good Christian boy", you're almost guaranteed to get it. I know many Cuban, Colombian, even Indian communities who are very successful and that was their basis.

I think it's good when immigrants assimilate, looks at the more... ahem prideful areas, Miami, parts of California, Texas, etc. They're basically impoverished ghettos that are economically isolated from the rest of the USA. So yeah, sounds like things are going well in Queens.
