Future Diablo Characters Class Variants

I would say that was you describe is half of the appeal. The other half is playing with heroes you have played with in older games, but pitted against one another in the setting of a MOBA. That's why you want Valeera to 'feel' like a WoW rogue, because you want to see that named hero that's important in the lore, but you want to experience the mechanics you remember adapted to a new setting.

Thrall and rehgar work because they represent different playable styles of WoW shaman. They also happen to both have names in the Warcraft universe because a real RPG has a greater focus on NPC interaction than an ARPG. People identify with other builds of Diablo heroes just as much as they do with the different Shaman builds. Just because they have to create a name for them doesn't make them less important in the memory of those who played both franchises. To me (someone who has played both Warcraft and Diablo since the first installment) the joy of re-experiencing a cold sorc or fire sorc as separate heroes is easily as exciting as getting to play a frost mage or fire mage from WoW. The fact that Jaina and Kael are named heroes doesn't diminish the differences in the playstyle- of the d2 equivalent.

That said, I would prefer a multi elemental d2 sorc hero, but I think it serves as a good example here.
