You can absolutely support women's rights and still make that one joke. It's definitely in poor taste, but making that mistake does not mean you don't support women's rights. There's a difference between using poor choice of words to describe how you refresh pages on the internet and not supporting women's rights. A very, very big difference. "Oh man, this guy is a great dude, he supports women's rights to abortion, closing the wage gap, etc... Oh wait, he made a joke in poor taste? NOPE PROBLEMATIC HE DOESN'T ACTUALLY BELIEVE ANY OF THAT STUFF ANYMORE!" Plus, your statement "not listening to women tell him rape jokes are not Kosher" implies that 1) all women, including female rapists, are authorities on rape and what is and isn't ok and 2) that only women can get raped/have a say in whether a "rape joke" is tasteless or not. Also, calling someone an oblivious liberal because they don't know obscure facts about the people they support is fucking stupid. By that logic, every liberal is an oblivious liberal. Any liberal who is wrong about a few facts or doesn't know a few facts about something they claim is now oblivious? But you're not oblivious because you do extensive research about every single thing you say before speaking, ever? I'm not defending the joke, it was offensive, but he does not "stand for shitty things". He makes a few mistakes here and there, all but one of them that you listed being entirely unintentional and rather a product of slightly incompetent fact-checking. He's human. It's not like all non-white non-geeky liberals literally never make mistakes, and they're all somehow superior to Matt and other geeky white liberals. You calling Matt oblivious is just another stepping stone in the never-ending "My liberalism is more progressive, informed and better than yours" unending circlejerk, whereby progress is defined by how many well-liked liberal figures you can claim are ignorant, problematic asshats and place yourself above. It's infuriating for me to see fellow liberal people act so fucking ignorant as to constantly degrade members of their own political group for being a fallible human, constantly on the search for mistakes, slips of the tongue, dumb jokes, etc. upon which to pounce and yell, "HE/SHE IS PROBLEMATIC! I'M BETTER THAN HIM/HER AND EVERYONE WHO LIKES THEM!" It's not helpful, it's not progress, it's bad. BAD.
