A game with actual freedom?

unless you get the resources yourself and sell the product its very unlikely anything that gives experience (or anything really) will also be profitable.

sadly runescape is probably your best bet. its the only mmo ive ever played where i truly felt free to do whatever. it has more skills than necessary (firemaking...) and you can be whatever 'class' or mix of 'classes' you want whenever. not sure why no one else has ever tried copying it and instead keep copy pasting the same theme park mmo.

what youre looking for (minus the raids and other multiplayer things) can be found in single player games although off the top of my head i cant think of any with a ton of skills except elder scrolls (and fable which only has a few minigame skills that just give you money).

theres also minecraft which ehh i dont really like the survival or the multiplayer but you can technically profit by selling crafted items for emeralds and theres no shortage of freedom. although everyone will basically be the same wearing the same diamond armor with a diamond sword and a bow.
