Gameday Thread 8/25/21 Giants (Cueto) @ Mets (Walker, T) 4:10 PM

So maybe coincidentally, but last night I was watching some random clips on YouTube and stumbled upon Jorge Posada playing 2nd base for the first time in the majors. It was like a 17-0 blowout against the A’s, and the Yankees just kinda randomly decided to play him at the position he played when he first signed.

Of course on the last batter of the game the ball is hit directly to Posada. He fields it nicely, surprisingly. But once he fielded it, having all the time in the world, he did a little charge step (and not very natural 2B like) getting ready to release the ball, throws it, and the ball is way off his target at 1st-only for Swisher to dive for the ball and still be covering 1B for the final out of the game.

Fast forward to today: I see an almost similar play when that ball off Alonso’s bat was hit to Bryant-only with less favorable results.

So TLDR Bryant fielded that ball as if he were a 40+ year old Jorge Posada playing 2nd base for the first time in the big leagues.
