GamerGate: Before & After

Did you view the gaming community as racist/sexist/etc. before GamerGate?/Do you view the gaming community as racist/sexist/etc. now?/Did you hold a negative opinion of the term "gamer" prior to GamerGate?/Do you hold a negative opinion of the term "gamer" now?

I was aware of stereotypes that was prevalent before gaming went mainstream. I was personally hoping that view changed with gaming going mainstream, but I was sadly mistaken. They stick around and being bandied around as truth when the view wasn't true before or after. So No on all four.

How did you view feminism before GamerGate?/How do you view feminism now?

That women are persons and should have the equal rigths and opportunities? Of course they should have the same rigths and opportunities. That hasn't changed one bit.

What were your thoughts on SJWs, Tumblrettes, Ghazi-types and "extreme feminists" before GamerGate? / What are your thoughts on SJWs, Tumblrettes, Ghazi-types and "extreme feminists" now?

I barely knew that they existed before the little I knew, I mistakenly belived that they barely had a voice. I was corrected when I noticed what was happening with GamerGate. They have very much a voice in public discourse.

Would you consider yourself more or less skeptical of the media following GamerGate?

More skeptical. I first noticed the strange bias during "donglegate". But didn't think much of it but noticed how it almost has infected some discussions around culture and politics after I started following the discourse. The example I have is what I experience here in Sweden. According to the far-left we have a problem with racism. So we have ended up self-identified feminists siding with patriarchs from the middle-east and throwing the rights of the women of these families under the bus. Even breathing that the women of the middle-eastern families are being oppressed in public discourse is intolerant to the middle-eastern culture and thus racist. Nobody gets to call them out on it and all they have to scream is racist and that is going to be uncritically be reported by the media. But never why.

Would you consider yourself more or less open minded following GamerGate?

I'm more open-minded when someone tries to defend themselves against being called sexist/racist/etc... I've started to tune out if I hear words from the "rad-fem" vocabulary, thus closing my mind to them. But it is their own doing.

Do you take "internet harassment" or "hate speech" more or less seriously following GamerGate?

The same before and after.

Are you more optimistic or pessimistic about the future of the gaming community/industry following GamerGate and why?

Unchanged... It is not that important to the community at large.

Are you more optimistic or pessimistic about the future of society following GamerGate and why?

Unchanged, it is what it is. I don't feel that question is that big of deal in society in general.

Were you aware of so-called "SJW cooption" in gaming prior to GamerGate?

Nope

Do you ever just want to "get back to playing vidya" without worrying about the politics or ideologues trying to takeover change gaming?

It doesn't consume much of my time for the odd follow I do on the events.

What change(s) would you like to see brought about by the GamerGate conversation?

I'm not in a position to change anything about it... I'm a neutral.
