Games to play with my Junior High students?

There's a multitude of ways to go around this, but more often than not you'd have to pick whichever way you're leaning. Decrypto would be great however you look at it - it's a team based word game with a devious twist that the way to actually win is to pay attention to the other team. Of course, outlasting works too, but it just hits different.

If you can get a hold of any of a multitude of "microgames", or just really small box games, it would do wonders too. Funnily enough, it's often easier to make a "big" game than it is to make a small one, but you kinda have to drill in that brevity is important in any case - if you have to pull out a calculator, the game is very wrong. For these, try coup, original Sushi Go(Party is largely superior, just not for this specific use case!), Fantasy Realms(provided you don't mind getting a deckbox just for it - the original box is negative space incarnate, and using a scoring app), maybe "Air Land and Sea" or Star Realms if 2-player only isn't an issue. Not to mention that drafting is hugely influential, and deckbuilding is often a revelation-like moment.
