gaming mentality

We were not from a well off family and didn't have broadband. My brother and I started gaming by "exchanging" games with people and those countless cyber cafes we had back then.

We would buy(pirated CDs) a good game like Max Payne or Star Wars and then exchange it with other places and people for more games. I remember it used to be "n-CDs game for an n-CDs game" where you can bag two small games for a large one with two CDs. Mind you we exchanged physical discs and not simply allowing to "copy", since some of them back then required the disc to play. Soon after that we had the internet boom, began pirating directly and more often. This continued on until I met Steam and CS 1.6 in college.

I now have a long list of things to buy, to make up for what we did as kids - no longer needs dad's approval. Once I got a job, purchased the entire GTA series, the Need for Speed series until the new Hot pursuit, Assassins Creed series until Black flag and some 60-70 assorted games in Steam+Others. It may not be much compared to most of the spenders out there but for me it's a personal satisfaction, that you paid for something you enjoyed and helped shape up who you are today.
