Just over 1200 bucks including a monitor, I know you said suggestions but I used it as the centre piece for how to design he build. I hope you'll like it.

A massive 8 core/ 16 thread monster CPU, this will handle any game you got, multitasking, and is perfect for virtual machines as you've got 16 threads to diverge. and fast compiling code.

an excellent CPU cooler to keep it running cool and quiet, perfect for future overclocking as well.

MSI motherboard, reliable, good looking, plenty of options and further expandability.

16GB high speed DDR4 RAM, plenty to game with and loads to diverge into VM's.

A 480GB SSD, OS programs and heavy games will all fit in here comfortably. accompanying 2TB high performance HDD for all other storage needs.

A GTX 1070, a brilliant card for high framerate 1080p gaming. (I know because I do the same thing) Max's out any game at high framerate. witcher 3 110+fps, BF1 120+ brilliant GPU.

All packed inside a delicious looking a NZXT case (mid tower) has plenty of space inside, making it easy to install and has a large window to show off some hardware ;)

powering everything is a very reliable, efficient 750W PSU made by a well trusted brand. and is also fully modular which is great.

2 140mm fans to go into the front (top and rear are supplied) they are high airflow to feed your components plenty of air. they had a Green LED which will supply a green glow inside the case.

and of course the monitor, a brilliant ASUS 1080p 144hz monitor, small bezel, great looking and a 1ms GTG.

Any questions, revisions or outright dislikes let me know. there's quite a bit we tweak for this build but its a great place to start.

:)
