Honestly I know this is probably not what a lot of people want to hear however it is true. You can go purchase a firearm and take a few shooting classes. That way if it ever occurs you can have a chance.

But if you consider that an option please don’t do it recklessly. There are often free and/or extremely cheap classes. Take the classes and practice. You want to make sure your ready for the situation to avoid as much collateral damage as possible. Some people get their CCL and go looking for trouble. Don’t be like that. Think of it like a seatbelt. You don’t get a car with seatbelts and go looking for an accident. You simply wear it, hope you don’t need it, but be happy when it’s there.
