[GDC][Rant] This years GDC was...different

This is honestly a laughable and very elitist view of GDC, and I read through the whole thing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Before I continue, I agree 110% with /u/AaronionRings, because this is SUPER ridiculous.

-The fact that you think people have to earn anything to call themselves a game developer is ridiculous. The whole point of GDC is for devs of all kinds to come together and share ideas and form friendships. Your dumb, elitist view about how people need to earn things in order to go is the reason people hate on the games industry.

-On the topic of earning, what the fuck is with you saying people that color their hair used to "earn" it. How the fuck do you "earn" the right to change yourself? I mean seriously. And how does their ability as a dev correlate to their hair color? Also being mad about people hugging each other? What is wrong with any of that, man?

-Maybe Zoe/Anita shouldn't have been in the VIP to you, and that's perfectly fine, but that doesn't mean they didn't shake things up or weren't polarizing figures in the game industry in 2014. It's not "ALL TIME HALL OF FAME GAME DEV VIP", so why are you angry that anyone is there? You sound bitter mentioning that you won't ever meet devs like that.

-Being mad about free engines is by the far the dumbest part of this argument. Another elitist view about how other people can make games easier. All that does is encourage people to follow what they want to do and not hinder them by forcing them to learn something in a tougher fashion. Being mad that people are making money off of Flash games is just pure bitterness once again.

  • Gender neutral bathrooms...what's not to understand? It's so people don't feel shamed by others thoughts. Having a gender neutral bathroom literally hurts NO ONE.

  • "this has always been a small industry and always will be (hopefully)"

Are you stuck in the 80's or something? You don't like hugging, hair color changes, or young people trying to better themselves and follow their dreams. The game industry hasn't been small for a LONG time and I doubt it's on the verge of shrinking. Once again, this is an EXTREMELY ELITIST view to have, as you just come across as someone wishing for a bygone era. Times change, grandpa.

  • All in all, this is an incredibly stupid post to make with such sincerity. The fact that you believe all of these things shows just how far the gaming industry has to go in terms of inclusion and acceptance. Bragging about being a AAA dev and then bashing everything about younger people and what they are trying to do makes you sound like a bitter game developer who possibly never made it "big".

Why did you join the video game industry - an industry meant to broaden people's imaginations and let them be whoever they want - only to come on a public forum and condemning them for doing exactly that?
