[GEAR] Since no one likes Gibson anymore apparently, who currently is making the best and MOST COST EFFECTIVE Les Paul-style guitar these days? Or should I buy used?

Yar to each his own.

I still wouldn't call the glued neck a flaw. My Mira S2 is a glued neck and it's definitely not a flaw. I'd hate if there was a big ol block of metal behind the neck on the body. I would probably put it as an "advantage" of fender rather than a flaw of a gibson. Bolt on means you can easily replace.

For the headstock angle, look up the one time they tried to change it in the 70's. They're stuck between a rock and hard place. On one hand, guys like you would probably love to see Gibson throw out a Les Paul with Single coils and a bolt on neck and an adjusted head stock. I know I would. I'd go ape shit lol and I'm not some Gibson fanboy.

If they did that though then all the people who've actually been buying Gibson guitars would freak out the same way it happened in the 70's.

I think Gibson would rather keep selling their guitars to the people that are still buying them than take a chance at a new setup/style and lose both new buyers and old at the same time.

Interesting take on the humbuckers hearing you describe them that way. Maybe it's just the humbuckers but mine sound crystal clear through every amp I've used.

You should check out some of Peavey's 80's guitars with the Super Ferrite Single Coils. Basically their own way of humbucking a single coil without actually humbucking it.

Here's a pic of them on my Peavey Patriot

Really awesome pickups. Definitely not as bright and shimmery as a typical single coil. But they retain enough of the sound that you can tell they're single coils. With the Ferrite surrounding the pickup it's almost like a compressor is working in there lol. Really evens out the sound. Your highs don't come in ripping ear drums apart and your lows come through without muddying up the rest of the sound.
