Gears of War movie gets a new screenwriter in F. Scott Frazier (xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Collide)

I think you're confusing "would be cool if" and "deserves." If you're going to adapt Gears into a movie, it will need a pretty significant re-write/re-imagining of things... however, the world created in the game is just a generic post-apocalyoptic planet. The "cool" characters that anyone gave a shit about already had their stories told. The central conflict underlying the series is the same regurgitated premise of so many sci-fi franchises (humans vs aliens + parasitic 3rd party that forces humans and aliens to change their relationship). So if you're just dealing with a generic setting, you're creating new characters, and creating a new underlying premise for the movie, then why are we bothering to keep the original IP? It just seems silly.
